Heating and cooling in Lockport means a trip of about 50 minutes for us, which is why we book these visits ahead and ask you to call first. Lockport is outside the area on our Google profile. If your furnace is down tonight, a contractor in the city can probably get there faster, and we will say so on the phone.

For planned work we are glad to talk it through: a boiler or furnace replacement, an older system you want checked, or central air for a house that never had any.

A city built up the escarpment, with houses that predate central air

Lockport takes its name from the Erie Canal locks that lift boats up the Niagara Escarpment, a natural drop of about 60 feet, according to Wikipedia. The city climbs the same slope and sits near 614 feet above sea level. NY 78 (Transit Road), NY 31, NY 77 and NY 93 all meet in town, and the older streets around the canal were laid out long before anyone planned a duct run.

Point2Homes puts about half of the city’s housing at 1939 or earlier. Many of those houses were built for radiators or gravity warm air, with central air added later or not at all. That is why a Lockport call so often turns on ductwork: where it can run, how much air it can carry, and whether ductless units fit better than squeezing in new trunk lines. We would look before suggesting either.

Wikipedia’s 1991 to 2020 normals give a January mean daily low of 18.1°F and a July mean daily high of 82.3°F. That is a heating-first climate, so the cooling question is usually comfort upstairs, not a long season of hard use. The 2020 census counted 10,178 housing units, 8.7 percent vacant, and 9,293 households, 37.8 percent of them one person living alone. A one-person household in a big older house may be heating rooms nobody uses, which is worth saying out loud before sizing a new boiler or furnace.

Services Lockport homes ask for most

Booking a Lockport visit: call, then we confirm

Lockport is about 50 minutes from Orchard Park, so we plan the work in advance and do not promise a quick turnaround. Call (321) 666-8870 on a weekday between 7:30 and 5 and describe what the equipment is doing. We will tell you if the timing works or if another contractor is the better choice for you. A message left outside those hours gets answered when we are back in the office.

For a replacement we measure, explain the options and give a clear quote before work starts. If you are weighing an upstairs cooling problem, our note on adding central air to an older double covers the same trade-offs.

Locks 34 and 35, NYSEG and the Lockport utility map

Wikipedia says two modern double-lift locks, each 24.5 feet high, carry the Erie Canal over the escarpment at Locks 34 and 35, with the old north Flight of Five left as a spillway. The city is about 17 miles north of I-90 via NY 78. Ida Fritz Park and the Kenan Center are two of its better-known open spaces, and the National Register lists the Lowertown Historic District, the High and Locust Streets Historic District and the Lockport Industrial District.

Utilities split differently here than in Buffalo. Niagara County’s 2017 economic development fact sheet says NYSEG provides electric service in the Lockport area, while National Grid covers the rest of the county, and that NYSEG supplies gas to the eastern part of the county. NYSEG advertises up to $10,000 for air-source heat pumps through NYS Clean Heat, and only a participating contractor can file. Check the current program page and your bill before planning on it.

Lockport details, and what we do not have yet

We have no Lockport job photos on this site. What you can check is our 4.9 rating from 57 Google reviews as of October 2026, on the reviews page. Harrison Radiator, the maker of automobile radiators, was founded in Lockport in the early 1910s and has been a General Motors division since 1918, per Wikipedia.

The NYS Department of Public Service lists both National Fuel and NYSEG as gas utilities in Niagara County. Check your bill to see which one serves your street before you call about a gas smell.

The City of Lockport Building Inspection Department at City Hall issues work permits for construction and major renovation, according to Niagara County’s business site. Ask there, not at the Town of Lockport office, whether a boiler, furnace or ductless job inside the city limits needs a permit.

Lockport heating and cooling questions

Can I get a furnace replacement quote in Lockport without a long wait?

A quote visit is the easiest kind of Lockport job for us to schedule. The trip is about 50 minutes from Orchard Park, so we plan it for a weekday. Call (321) 666-8870, tell us the furnace’s age and what it is doing, and we will say honestly when a visit could happen.

Which utility handles a heat pump rebate in Lockport?

Your electric utility does, and in the Lockport area that is NYSEG, according to Niagara County’s economic development fact sheet, while most of the county is National Grid. NYS Clean Heat rebates run through the utility, and only a participating contractor can file. Check your bill and the current program page, then ask us before you assume a rebate applies.

Does an older Lockport house need new ductwork for central air?

Often it needs some. Houses built for radiators or gravity warm air rarely have duct paths sized for cooling. We check what exists, then compare modified ducts with ductless units. Ductless can cool upstairs rooms where trunk lines will not fit, and it avoids opening plaster walls.
